On Thursday, the Rotary Club of Marion formally donated a 2014 Dodge minivan to the McDowell County School System.

The vehicle was given by the club so the school system can assist students and families in need of transportation and education. This van has low mileage and features the Rotary name and logo.

It is President Dennis Whitson's signature project during his tenure as leader of the local Rotary Club.

The club acquired the van from Baker Automotive and had the Rotary and school system emblems added to the exterior. On Thursday, Whitson presented the keys for the van to School Superintendent Mark Garrett.

The members of the Rotary Club of Marion said they hope this van will make a difference in the lives of these students.

"This is going to be very beneficial for a lot of kids," said case worker Tera Willis.
