The Dagenhart family of Conover is $100,000 richer today. They were the season 29 winners on the “America’s Funniest Home Videos" television show.
On Aug. 2, Tracie Dagenhart filmed her son, Colby Dagenhart, post-dental surgery. In the video, Colby Dagenhart pointed and said “I don’t know what that is.” His mother explained it was their dog, Izzy. He argued and said Izzy was a raccoon. Izzy is a Shih Tzu.
Tracie Dagenhart posted the video to her Facebook page, and was encouraged by family and friends to submit it to “America’s Funniest Home Videos." She said she sent it in not expecting that she would soon get a call to go to Los Angeles to be on the show with a chance to win $10,000.
“When I first heard they were going to air the video, I was expecting for us to just get T-shirts or something,” Tracie Dagenhart said.
To Tracie Dagenhart’s surprise, they won the $10,000 first-place prize with a chance to go on to the season finale to win $100,000. But there were no guarantees. Only three videos for the season make the finale.
In October, the Dagenharts received another call from “America’s Funniest Home Videos” saying they were chosen as one of the top three videos of the season and invited back to Los Angeles where they would compete for $100,000.
After finding out they won $100,000, Colby Dagenhart’s grandmother, Linda Livingston, wrapped the show’s host, Alfonso Ribeiro, in a hug.
“[Linda] is so funny,” Tracie Dagenhart said. “She put streamers over Alfonso and Colby. Alfonso said it made his day.”
Colby Dagenhart said he wanted to use the money to take a trip to Paris.
“[Colby] is turning 15 in April,” Tracie Dagenhart said. “You would think a 15-year-old would want a car.”
Tracie Dagenhart said other than taking a trip they plan on saving the money and possibly invest it in the future.
The Dagenharts are not finished. The video will now be eligible to compete with the season 30 winner for a chance to win a trip to Hawaii. The Dagenharts will return to Los Angeles in March for that episode’s taping.
