ELLENDALE – A man was pronounced dead Wednesday morning at the scene of the incident after a tree fell on him while attempting to cut the tree in two, according to an Alexander County Sheriff’s Office press release.
The incident occurred near the intersection of Dover Church Road and Mountain Ridge Church Road near the Ellendale community of Alexander County.
Emergency personnel responded to a report of a tree falling on an individual at approximately 4:15 a.m. Wednesday.
Emergency personnel pronounced the victim dead at the scene of the incident, according to the release.
Brian Keith Wilmoth, 31, of Wilkes County, was operating a chainsaw and cutting a tree that had fallen on a power line, according to the release.
As Wilmoth cut the tree in two, the power lines sprang upward, throwing the tree back on to Wilmoth, according to the release.
Wilmoth was an employee of Asplundh Company, according to the release. The investigation is ongoing.
