A Conover family could win the $100,000 grand prize on the "America's Funniest Home Videos" television show.
The Dagenhart family won $10,000 on a previous episode this season for a video which featured Colby Dagenhart, 14, post-dental surgery. He sees the family dog, Izzy, and mistakes the pet for a raccoon. Izzy is a Shih Tzu. That was on Nov. 11.
The video went on to become one of the top three for the season and qualify for the finale.
Tracie Dagenhart, Colby’s mother, was informed on Nov. 16 that they were selected as finalists and the family was given a two-week notice before returning to Los Angeles for the finale taping.
Tracie Dagenhart said preparation was hectic. The family wardrobe has to be approved before they left for Los Angeles.
The studio time was a busy one, as well. During the taping they were not allowed to have their phones. “I think we were taping for an hour and a half. Maybe two hours,” Tracie Dagenhart said.
Tracie Dagenhart spoke highly of the show’s host, Alfonso Riberio.
“If he messed up, he would tell jokes,” Tracie Dagenhart said. “He was really nice.”
Colby Dagenhart said the experience left an impact on him. “I got to travel across the country and see a lot of really cool places,” he said.
Colby Dagenhart said that he was able to purchase an Apple Watch with their past winnings and if they were to win the $100,000 prize he wanted to visit either Paris or Dubai.
The Dagenhart family’s video will be featured on the Jan. 6 episode at 8 p.m., according to the "America’s Funniest Home Videos" website.
