Sweet sounds downtown: Marion kicks off City Stage Block Party series

Friday evening, downtown Marion kicks off the summer City Stage Block Parties with live music, food and beverages. The first in the series of four block parties will take place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at the City Stage at 44 North Main St. Marion’s North Block will be closed to traffic to allow for outdoor seating, games and vendors. This evening’s party will feature the group Buick MacKane. This talented band plays something for everyone with “a little bit of country, with some blues and rock and then adds in some funk.”

The first in the series of four block parties will take place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday evening at the City Stage at 44 North Main St.

Marion’s North Block will be closed to traffic to allow for outdoor seating, games and vendors.

This month’s featured band is Buick MacKane. This talented band plays something for everyone with “a little bit of country, with some blues and rock and then add in some funk.”

The members of Buick MacKane are: Donnie Basham, acoustic guitar and vocals; Wes Cullars, guitar and vocals; Chris Singleton, bass guitar and vocals; Rick Brown, keyboard; Kurt Dellinger, drums and vocals.

“The Buick MacKane Band is out and playing for Marion,” reads a news release from the Marion Business Association. “Come see and hear this dynamic band in downtown Marion at the City Stage.”

Folks are asked to bring a lawn chair for this family-friendly event and free concert.

In addition, beverages and food will be available for purchase. There will be food trucks and vendors, as well as local groups and businesses such as Ghost Riders, Bikers Against Child Abuse, Workout Anytime, the Marion East Community Forum, the West Marion Community Forum, Centro-Unido Forum, Marybell Face and Body Art, the Kiwanis Club of Marion, Embroider UP and others.

This is the first in a series of summer block parties at the City Stage. There will be four Fridays of music and fun on Marion’s North Block. Others are planned for July 20 (featuring Sidecar Honey), Aug. 17 (featuring The Secret B-Sides) and Sept. 21 (featuring Supatight). The series is presented by Crooked Door Coffee House and TL Creative Solutions.
