A Marion felon was arrested and charged after a traffic stop on Thursday uncovered over 9 ounces of meth, almost $35,000 in cash and a firearm, authorities said Friday.

Cpl. Christian Wyatt of the Marion Police Department charged 29-year-old Mitchell Gilliland of Marion with possession of methamphetamine, trafficking by transportation, possession with intent to sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance, simple possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Thursday, May 9, Cpl. Wyatt conducted a vehicle stop on vehicle owned and operated by Gilliland on US 70 East in Marion. At that time, the officer deployed K-9 Marsoc during the vehicle stop, to which the K-9 alerted to narcotics in the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle yielded $34,852.40 in cash, 264 grams (or 9.3 ounces) of meth, four grams of marijuana, and a firearm.

Gilliland was taken into custody under a $351,000.00 bond.
