A trucker trying to find Tractor Supply in Black Mountain said he took a wrong turn onto a rural road near the McDowell/Buncombe line where his trailer slid off the gravel and into a creek.
No one was hurt but the road was closed for hours as crews worked to get the trailer out of the creek.
At approximately 10:26 a.m. Thursday, emergency units and law enforcement responded to Mill Creek Road in the area of Old U.S. 70 West in Old Fort after receiving reports of a tractor-trailer accident.
Arriving agencies found the truck still on the road, but the trailer was partially in the creek.
According to Old Fort Police Chief Melvin Lytle Jr., the driver of the vehicle was in route to Tractor Supply in Black Mountain coming off the interstate when his GPS directed him to travel on Old U.S. 70, where he ended up on the dirt portion of Mill Creek in the wrong direction. As he was traveling down the mountain, the trailer ran off the right shoulder near the McDowell/Buncombe county line. No injuries were reported, according to Lytle.
At this time, road closures are in place at Graphite Road and Mill Creek Road in Old Fort, while closures remain in place at Ridgecrest in Buncombe County.
