At 1:30 p.m. Monday, two vehicles collided in a wreck at the intersection of Crane Resistoflex Road and U.S. 70 West in Pleasant Gardens.

James Smith, 59, of Nebo was driving his Ford Fusion on Crane Resistoflex Road and came to the intersection with U.S. 70 West. Jack Piercy, 69, of Old Fort was traveling east on U.S. 70 in a Kia minivan.

As Piercy approached Crane Resistoflex Road, Smith failed to yield the right of way and pulled out in front of him. Piercy collided with Smith. Both men were transported to Mission Hospital McDowell because they have heart conditions. Smith will be charged with failure to yield right of way. No one else was traveling in these vehicles, according to Trooper D.R. Alexander with the N.C. Highway Patrol.

The wreck stopped traffic at the busy intersection until the scene could be cleared. Both vehicles were towed by a wrecker truck.
