A driver was charged on Friday, police said, after causing an accident with a patrol car Thursday afternoon.

Around noon on Thursday, emergency units and law enforcement responded to 308 N. Main St. in Marion in front of Moondoggy’s restaurant after receiving reports of a multi-car collision with entrapment.

According to troopers, Officer Matt Huggins was driving a marked Marion Police Department patrol vehicle when a black 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Trechele Vail, turned in front of Huggins and caused the collision. Officials said they determined speed was not a factor after downloading the police cruiser’s internal computer.

Vail was issued a citation.

Those involved suffered minor injuries. Huggins was expected to return to work on Monday and Vail said in a message to The McDowell News Friday night both she and her 16-year-old daughter, who rescuers had to free from the vehicle, are OK.
