A rollover accident in rainy conditions on I-40 sent an Asheville woman to the hospital Friday morning.
At approximately 9:48 a.m. Friday morning, emergency units and law enforcement responded to I-40 westbound near the 85 mile marker after receiving reports of a vehicle wreck with rollover.
According to Trooper Andy Waycaster of the NC State Highway Patrol, the white Hyundai Genesis – driven by Rachel Bretz of Asheville – was traveling westbound at an excessive speed given the morning’s rainy conditions when it veered off the shoulder and hit the bank, struck an interstate sign and overturned.
Bretz was transported to Mission Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Waycaster. She was charged with exceeding safe speed per the conditions present.
Glenwood Fire Department, McDowell EMS, McDowell Rescue Squad and the NCSHP responded to the incident.
