A Valdese teenager was killed in a single-vehicle wreck in Marion and alcohol and high speed are listed as suspected factors, according to reports.
At 6:42 p.m. Thursday, emergency units and law enforcement responded to Bill Cook Drive near Memorial Park Road in Marion after receiving reports of a wreck.
According to First Sgt. Mark Cline of the NC State Highway Patrol, a 2000 Ford Mustang convertible – operated by 19-year-old Conner Good of Marion – was traveling on Bill Cook Drive when it left the roadway, traveled up an embankment and overturned.
A passenger in the back seat, 18-year-old Joshua Deal of Valdese, was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Other occupants involved in the single-vehicle crash refused treatment and transport, according to Emergency Services Director William Kehler.
“There were passengers that left the scene, some came back, some didn’t, so we’re still looking into that,” said Cline. “We believe there were four total people in the car.”
According to Cline, alcohol and high speed are suspected factors to the wreck, with the investigation underway by numerous local and state agencies. Charges were pending Friday.
