In his first act as new principal of West McDowell Middle School, Nakia Carson is looking for volunteers to spruce up the school during the summer.

“I want people to adopt an area at West Middle, and I want our kids to be part of the process as well in doing an extreme makeover of our school over the summer,” Carson told The McDowell News by email.

Carson is looking for volunteers to help with painting, mulch, cleaning, hauling off broken furniture, weed and tree trimming.

He’s also requesting businesses to adopt a teacher or classroom to help with any needs.

“If a place looks really since, and all people are investing in our students, the staff and the community will see their worth and raise their expectations,” said Carson. “We will build stronger relationships in our community as whole.”

If you would like to help West Middle’s summer makeover project, call the school at 652-3390 or email nakia.carson@mcdowell.k12.nc.us.
