Paul Arkeles Brooks, 83, of Old Fort, passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019, at Mission Hospital in Asheville.
Mr. Brooks was born in Swain County to the late James Roy Brooks and Eula Anthony Brooks. He was a member of Greenlee Baptist Church. Mr. Brooks was very active with the Old Fort Golf Course, and he was the secretary at one time. He was also a past member of the McDowell County Board of Education where he once served as the chairman. Mr. Brooks was a retired manager in the textile industry.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne Brooks and Charles Brooks. Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda Brooks; three sons, John Brooks and wife, April, Paul Brooks Jr. and wife, Penny, and Tony Brooks and wife, Pam; one daughter, Monica Effler and significant other, Duane Moore; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jimmy Brooks and Don Brooks; as well as three sisters, Kay Revis, Nina Goforth, and Debra Davis.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Old Fort First Baptist Church with the Rev. Drew Dalton and Rev. Dennis Burleson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., prior to the service.
