Carter Junior Burgin, 92, of Old Fort, peacefully went home to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Saturday, June 22, 2019.
A native of McDowell County, he was born March 22, 1927, to the late Melvin C. and Mary Knupp Burgin. He was a member of Mt. Hebron Wesleyan Church, where he served as a board member, Sunday school superintendent, youth director, member of the building committee, choir member and other positions. Carter served in the United States Navy, Seaman First Class, from March 21, 1945 until Jan. 14, 1948, on board the USS Wiltsie. He worked at Old Fort Finishing Plant and with Wallace D. Walker, Electrical Contractor, until he retired.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sheila Sue; two brothers, Chester Burgin and Young Burgin; and a sister, Alice Burgin Robertson.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Faye Lovyne Stevens Burgin; a sister, Helen Burgin Walker and husband Wallace; two sisters-in-law, Dee Stevens and Betty Lunsford; and a brother-in-law, Carroll Stevens. "Uncle Carter's" Christian life, love, and laughter will be cherished by multiple nieces and nephews as well.
A funeral service will take place Wednesday, June 26, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Hebron Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Todd Hinson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church, prior to the service. Burial with military honors will follow in Cherry Springs Memorial Park.
