Mr. Ernest Kenneth Chapman, 83, of the Dysartsville community, passed away peacefully, at his home, Thursday, Nov. 28, 2019.

He was born in McDowell County Aug. 14, 1936, to the late Dots Chapman and Maude McKinney Chapman. Ernest was retired from Morganton Dye & Finishing and later worked for McDowell Waste Management. He was a man of many interests who loved Bluegrass music, trains and RFD TV. He was especially good at cooking and never tired of trying new recipes. He mostly loved his family, and had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, of which he was blessed with an abundance of. Ernest was a faithful member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Teresa Pitman (and her husband, Mike); two granddaughters, Serena Chapman and Brandy Baker; grandson, Jamie Jones; brother, James Chapman; and sister, Fannie Mae Lowery. Surviving are his beloved wife of 63 years, Doris Lowery Chapman; three children, Darrell Chapman and wife, Vickie, of Hickory, Denise Baker and husband, Randy, of Marion and Donna Bradley and husband, Ricky, of Rutherfordton; brother, Michael Chapman of Union Mills; six sisters, Maxine McKinney of Black Mountain, Linda Reep of Glen Alpine, Dorothy Hollifield of Marion, Rosie Sutton of Holland, Sue Michaels of Union Mills and Wanda Conley of Nebo; 41 grandchildren, including special granddaughter, Rita Rector; 34 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 2, from 2 to 3 p.m., at Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion. A service will follow at 3 p.m., in Westmoreland Chapel with the Rev. Steven Painter officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
