Renato Mercado Dioquino, 79, of 192 Winding Creek Dr. in Troutman, passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2018, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.
He was born May 2, 1939, in the Philippines to the late Jose Dioquino and Aniceta Mercado. He was a member of the Church of St. Philip The Apostle.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Romulo Dioquino and Jesus Dioquino.
Surviving are his wife, Maria Inovejas Dioquino; one daughter, Belinda Joy Dioquino Smith of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. and her husband, Darrin Joseph Smith of Raleigh; one son, Kevin Lee Dioquino of Mooresville; two grandsons, Colin Joseph Smith of Boise, Idaho and Kevin Lee Dioquino Jr. of Mooresville; two brothers, Jose Dioquino, Ruben Dioquino; three sisters, Angelita Timbol, Teresita Gonzales, Gloria Olson; 10 nieces and 12 nephews.
Renato, also known as "Doctor D" was an internal medicine doctor who practiced in Black Mountain, Marion, and Morganton. He also served as the Skilled Nursing Facility Medical Director for Autumn Care in Marion, and as a missionary doctor in the Philippines. Doctor D was a coin collector, enjoyed singing karaoke, was an avid world traveler and an active member of his Catholic Church Congregation.
The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 29, at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, with Father Carl Kaltreider officiating. Interment will follow in McDowell Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 28, at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion.
