Mrs. Virgie Miller Fletcher, 85, of the Pleasant Gardens community, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018, at Mission Hospital McDowell following several months of declining health.
A lifelong resident of McDowell County, Virgie was a daughter of the late Mark Monroe Miller and Cady Huskins Miller and was born Feb. 4, 1932. Virgie was the co-owner with her husband of Fletcher's Greenhouse in Pleasant Gardens. She took much pleasure in her flowers and the birds, but will probably be most remembered for the poinsettias she and Bob cultivated each year for Christmas. Virgie was a great cook and cared well for her family. She made many friends over the years in her business and had many deep and lasting relationships with the folks that traded with her. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed by her family and indeed all who came to know and love this fine lady. Virgie was a member of Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church.

"Bob" Fletcher of the home; three children, Keith Fletcher and wife, Darlene of Marion, Nita Fletcher of Marion, and Ray Fletcher and wife, Sonja of Las Vegas, Nev.; brother, Clyde Miller and wife, Cheri; two grandchildren, Melanie Ellis and husband, Scott and Mandy Cable and husband, Jason; and two great-grandchildren, Kaley Ellis and Landyn Cable.
A service of remembrance and celebration of her life will be held Thursday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion, with the Rev. Jerry Lewis officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church Cemetery.
