MARION

Frances Hennessee Staton, 90, of Marion, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Autumn Care of Marion.

Mrs. Staton was born Dec. 12, 1928, in McDowell County, to the late John Wesley Hennessee and Eva Estelle Fleming Hennessee. She was a faithful member of Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church for over 70 years where she was an active member of the New Hope Sunday school class and a co-director of the Golden Age Group. She also volunteered for the McDowell Mission for several years. Her family lovingly remembers her as a Godly woman who always had a smile on her face. They describe her as optimistic and unselfish. She was a caretaker to many family members and always very dedicated to her beloved family.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, James Staton; and her daughter, Danette Sheriff.

Left behind to cherish Mrs. Staton's memory are one son, Danny Staton and wife, Cindy; one son-in-law, Michael Sheriff; her niece/daughter, Frances Hollifield and husband, Tony; two grandchildren, Jeremy Staton and wife, Amanda and Tyler Staton; two great-granddaughters, Addison and Samantha Staton; special niece and nephew, Courtney Ward and husband, Eric and Ben Hollifield and wife, Nancy; a special great-great-nephew, William Hollifield; one brother-in-law, Fred Staton; one sister-in-law, Barbara McKinney; and a very special friend, Helen Roach.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday, July 8, at Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church.

A funeral service to celebrate Mrs. Staton's life will follow at 12 p.m., with Revs. Larry Gregg and Ethan Hester officiating. Burial will follow the service at McDowell Memorial Park.
