SPRUCE PINE

Gordon Leonard Stevenson, 75, of Spruce Pine, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Mission Memorial Hospital.

A native of Baltimore City, Md., he was a son of the late Merryman and Ella Mae Fleidham Stevenson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul Stevenson. Gordon was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served on the USS Intrepid and was a member of Pine Branch Baptist Church. He was a very well-liked person who enjoyed being around people and lending a helping hand. He was a hard worker and loved being with his family and his dog, Muffie.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 24 years, Wilda Greene Stevenson; son, Brian Stevenson and wife, Cindy, of Burnsville; a grandson, Caleb Stevenson; a sister, Pat Cheek and husband, James, of Virginia; stepchildren, Eddie Hoover and wife, Pam, of Clearmont, Michael Scott Hoover and wife, Misty, of North Wilkesboro and Melissa Autrey and husband, Ronnie, of Estill Springs, Tenn.; and stepgrandchildren, Eric Hoover, William Hoover, Mady Hoover and Tyler Autrey. Several nieces, nephews and extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, July 14, in Pine Branch Baptist Church. Pastor Bobby Greene and the Rev. Steve Williams will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pine Branch Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Sgt. E.L. Randolph Chapter #57 D.A.V.

The family will receive friends at the church from 2 to 4 p.m., prior to the services.
