Nancy Ledbetter Tyler Teeter, 91, passed away unexpectedly at her home Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018.

Nancy was a daughter of the late Emery Clyde Miller and Lune Sykes Miller and was born in Catawba County, Aug. 25, 1926. Her aunts, Kate and Lela Miller raised Nancy and her brother Emery. She was a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College with B.A. degrees in Music and English.

Nancy taught music and piano in public schools and directed three choruses at the High School in Youngsville. Nancy taught piano at five different schools in McDowell County before opening her own studio in her home on Fern Avenue. A member of First Baptist Church of Marion, she served there as the church organist and choir director for many years and also served as the organist at First Presbyterian Church in Marion for a time. She believed that the Lord put her on this earth to teach students piano and taking that to heart she really enjoyed using her talents in this capacity. Nancy was a high soprano and on several occasions sang the soprano solos in Handel's "Messiah" which was presented in the Christmas season each year.

In addition to her parents and brother, Emery, she was preceded in death by four sons, Brent, Kyle, Jeff and Mark Ledbetter; and former husbands, Bill Ledbetter, Joe Tyler and Bob Teeter.

Surviving Nancy are her son, Brad Ledbetter and wife, Mary; daughters-in-law, Debra Mace, Amanda Ledbetter and Maria Ledbetter; grandchildren, Christopher Ledbetter and wife, Whitney, Adam Ledbetter, Nancy Beth Ledbetter, Nathaniel Ledbetter and Joshua Ledbetter; and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by nephews and two special nieces, Kate and Trish Miller.

A service of remembrance and celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Scott Hagaman officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Flowers are acceptable and appreciated, however, those desiring to make a memorial contribution in her memory are encouraged to consider the Music Department at First Baptist Church, 99 N. Main St., Marion, NC 28752; or to the McDowell Senior Center Home Delivered Meals Program, 100 Spaulding Rd., Marion, NC 28752.

Brad, I would like to share my condolences and also express our sorrow on behalf of Ann Burnett. Ann is my mother and now has dementia. Based on our conversations in the past, I know Mom would be very sad to know that your mother has passed away. Mom babysat for you when you were younger and your parents would often take her with your family to the lake. Your mother also tried to teach my Mom to play the piano, but I am afraid my mother wasn't a very good student. May God grant the the comfort and strength you need through the days to come. Know that your mother was very much loved.
