The McDowell Titans junior varsity basketball team, with the help of a lucky dozen players, remained perfect on the season, beating the West Caldwell Warriors 65-37 Friday.

After the first quarter of Friday’s game against the West Caldwell Warriors, it was easy to see McDowell Titans head coach Brian Franklin was not a happy man.

Not everyone who was supposed to show up for the McDowell Titans’ non-conference quad-match Wednesday night made it. But the Titans made quick work of the team that did.

The McDowell Titan wrestling team has been hampered by injuries and sickness this season, and, as a result, has been forced to offer up far more forfeits than it would like.

The McDowell Titans had something of a rough go of it on their trip to Polk County for the Wolverine Duals last weekend, winning one match and dropping three others, one of them a tie decided by tiebreaker criteria.

McDowell head coach Jennifer Kinninger couldn’t be with her team Wednesday night when it hosted the Mitchell Mountaineers, but there’s no question the Lady Titans made their coach proud from afar.

With talented sophomore post Trent Lewis on the bench because of early foul trouble, the McDowell Titans’ offensive machinery was broken.

Twenty-four hours after suffering its first loss of the season, the McDowell Lady Titans junior varsity basketball team got back on the winning track as they held off the Mitchell Lady Mountaineers 44-16 Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Titan Gym.

The final score of 42-30 was a popular one at Watauga Tuesday night – the McDowell Titans split their two matches, each by the same score.

In junior varsity boys action, the McDowell Titans continued their strong play, holding off the Watauga Pioneers 64-52.

In a turnover-riddled game that saw both teams make more than their share of bad decisions, the McDowell Lady Titans made one extremely smart one: They got the ball to Dezi Williams.

The McDowell Titans split their two opening matches in Northwestern 3A/4A Conference action Friday night, beating West Caldwell and falling to NWC juggernaut St. Stephens on the road.

The McDowell Titans junior varsity  basketball team kept its perfect record on the season intact Friday afternoon, rallying to beat the Saint Stephens Indians 47-46 in an overtime thriller at Titan Gymnasium.

HICKORY – It may not have been a particularly high-scoring game, but the Hickory Lady Red Tornadoes had the pace of Wednesday’s Northwestern 3A/4A Conference opener at exactly where they wanted it.

HICKORY – Coming out to a slow start is never a good thing. Doing it on the road is pretty much a recipe for disaster.
