The McDowell Lady Titans volleyball team continued its march toward a State 4A Playoff bid by sweeping the Freedom Lady Patriots in three games on Monday evening.
The Lady Titans cruised through the first game, winning 25-14. Makenna Parkins (11 kills, 11 digs) had six kills in the opener and served an ace on the final point.
Freedom came out in the second game and took an early 7-2 lead. However, McDowell (9-6 overall, 4-5 Northwestern 3A/4A Conference) recovered from the deficit and took the second game 25-19.
In the final game, the Lady Patriots tried to rally from being down 24-17. Freedom strung together five straight points but a Jada Cannon (6 kills, 3 blocks) spike ended the threat and the match.
Jessica Cannon (4 digs, 2 aces) and Emily Register (4 blocks) added seven kills each and Daisy Rice finished with three kills at middle hitter.
Lucy Hames recorded 21 assists. Clementine Miller had 20 digs, Elaina Rampey added 16 digs and Katie Baker finished with 11 digs.
McDowell is now in a prime position to earn a playoff berth, up two games over South Caldwell in the Northwestern 3A/4A standings with three matches left on the league schedule.
The Lady Titans will be on the road tonight at Hickory (6 p.m.).
McDowell wraps up the regular-season schedule next week with a home match Monday against St. Stephens and a road match at South Caldwell Wednesday.
