Twenty-four hours after suffering its first loss of the season, the McDowell Lady Titans junior varsity basketball team got back on the winning track as they held off the Mitchell Lady Mountaineers 44-16 Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Titan Gym.

McDowell (6-1) jumped out to a 13-2 advantage after one quarter of play and gradually expanded its margin throughout the rest of the game. A total of eight players scored in the game with Payton Koone scoring a game-high 12 points.

Marianna Carson came off the bench and scored eight points. Madi Smith (4 rebounds) added seven points. Clementine Miller chipped in six points and Aubrey Goode had five points.

Cassie Banks and Aubrey Harris netted two points each and Sydney Strode (5 rebounds) scored one point.

McDowell 48, Mitchell 38 (jayvee boys)

The McDowell Titans received a balanced effort in a 10-point win against Mitchell in junior varsity boys action.

Gavin Davis scored 11 points and Zavion Bianchini added 10 points to give the Titans a pair of scorers in double figures.

Colby Effler had eight points. Jandon Robbins scored five points. Mason McPeters, Riley Moore and Josh Smith finished with two points apiece.

McDowell returns to Northwestern 3A/4A action this afternoon at Alexander Central (4 p.m. jayvee girls start, auxiliary gym).
