The McDowell County Little League Majors All-Star team, with the help from its offense, forced a decisive final game in the North Carolina District 7 tournament by winning 16-9 at Avery County Tuesday night.

McDowell, after losing the opening game of the tournament to Avery, rallied to advance to Wednesday’s District 7 championship game, with a berth to the State Little League Tournament on the line. Results were not available at press time.

The team belted out 15 more hits in Tuesday’s victory.

After falling behind 3-0 in the first half-inning of play, McDowell responded by scoring in all five innings that they came to the plate.

McDowell took a 4-3 advantage after one inning, and then they scored two more runs in the second, five in the third and two more runs in the fourth and fifth innings to stay ahead of the pace.

Evan Kelley had three hits including a no-doubt home run to center, and two RBIs. Mason Brewer (RBI), Dawson Ray (RBI), Matthew Wyatt (4RBIs), Kristian Seaman (2RBIs) and Nate Finley (2RBIs) had two hits apiece in the lineup and Brasen Widener along with Alex Barnes (RBI) had one hit each for McDowell.
