Several of McDowell’s Titan and Lady Titan cross country athletes ran in the United Way Cross Country Invitational in Newton Wednesday afternoon.
Three Titans competed in the boys’ championship event. Barrett Webb turned in the team’s best individual finish, placing 24th with a time 18:22.74.
Fabian Bradley ran a 19:44.23 in the boys’ championship race, placing 56th, while Emir Juarez finished 84th with a time of 20:32.75.
Erick Arriola ran in the mixed gender open race, placing 19th with a time of 22:08.42. Joseph Moss competed in the boys’ invitational race, running a 25:38.89.
For the Lady Titans, Danae Lagos placed 104th in the girls’ invitational with a time of 27:00.15. Laura Audino was 66th in the mixed gender open with a time of 37:47.15.
St. Stephens won the boys’ championship race in a competitive, 17-team field with 58 points, 11 ahead of second-place T.C. Roberson. St. Stephens’ Tyler Christensen was the individual winner with a time of 16:35.41.
The girls’ championship team winner was A.C. Reynolds with 38 points. North Iredell’s Jonna Strange won the individual event with a time of 18:24.62.
Lincoln Charter was the team winner for the boys’ invitational with 48 points. Christopher Upton of R-S Central placed first in the 250-runner field with a 16:28.62. Brevard won the girls’ invitational with 49 points. The individual winner was Brevard’s Lucy Murray, who ran a 20:56.99.
Roberson won the mixed gender open. The boys’ winner was Roberson’s Omung Chhina. The girls’ winner was Carson’s Carly Green.
Next up for McDowell is the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference championship meet, which is set for Wednesday, Oct. 23 in Newton.
