MHS teams struggle at Alexander Central meet

The McDowell Titans and Lady Titans each finished fourth in a four-team track meet at Alexander Central Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Titans scored 21 points to finish behind Watauga (125.5), Alexander Central (80.5) and Freedom (33). Meanwhile, the Titans put up 18 points, placing behind Alexander Central (95.5), Watauga (91.5) and Freedom (65).

Despite their team finish, the Lady Titans were outstanding in the throwing events. Summer Bartlett and Cierra Flack tied for first place in the shot put, with each throwing 36 feet, 5 inches.

Autumn Bartlett placed fourth in the shot with a throw of 34-2. Summer Bartlett also took fourth place in the discus with a throw of 88-11.

The Lady Titans’ 4X100 relay team took third place. Reagan Tipper was fourth in the triple jump (25-4) and Olivia Davis placed fifth in the high jump (4-0).

The Titans also fared well in throwing, with Walker Hughes taking third in the shot (38-8) and fifth in discus (110-2). Trevor Kettles was fourth in the discus with a throw of 113 feet.

Jacob Craeton placed third in the 110-meter hurdles (22.1); Cal Stevenson was third in the pole vault (8-6); and the 4X200 and 4X100 relay teams also placed third.

McDowell hosts a meet next Wednesday.
