The McDowell Titans tennis team got its 2018 season off to a solid start Wednesday with a 7-2 victory over Draughn.
The Titans lost only one singles match and one doubles match en route to the win, and picked up victories in the top four singles matches.
Cameron Crater defeated Thomas Vang 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 seed. At the second seed, Chris Boyette topped Cheng Vue 6-1, 6-0. Third seed Tyler Wilson edged Seth Williams in a tiebreaker, 6-1, 5-7, (8-6).
Isaac Smith beat Timothy Yang 6-3, 6-3 at the fourth seed. McDowell’s Thomas Moomaw fell 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5. But Walter Catala got the Titans back on track with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Joseph Lee.
In doubles, Crater and Wilson beat Vang and Yang 8-2. Cheng Vue and Williams teamed up to beat Catala and John Ramirez 8-5. Moomaw and Trey Beverly beat Lucas Lee and Joseph Lee 9-7 in the finale.
McDowell was on the road at Patton Thursday. Results were not available at press time.
