The East McDowell Trojans earned a two game sweep of County rival West McDowell Thursday afternoon at Spartan Gym.
In girls’ action, the East McDowell Lady Trojans held firm control from the start to beat West 34-12.
The Lady Spartans got a score from Aubrey Harris (2 points, 6 rebounds) in the opening two minutes of play, but from there, East McDowell (5-3) scored the next 16 points and was never challenged afterwards.
Savannah Banks (4 rebounds) netted 14 points and Sydney Strode (4 rebounds) added seven points. Kassie Banks scored four points.
Kelsi McPeters, Peyton McPeters, Kennedy Dobson and Alexis Rhymer had two points apiece and Emily Alfaro scored one point.
Tayla Carson led West McDowell (0-9) with five points. Brooklyn Thompson and Katie Davis chipped in two points each and Gracie Rice scored one point.
East McDowell 51, West McDowell 42 (boys basketball)
The East McDowell Trojan boys also were victorious, beating rival West McDowell 51-42 on Thursday.
The Trojans jumped out to a 14-9 advantage in the first quarter and gradually increased the margin, with the lead reaching as high as 41-23 early in the fourth quarter.
Josh Smith (5 rebounds, 3 assists) tallied a game-high 19 points for East McDowell (3-5) and Jandon Robbins added 15 points.
Zavion Bianchini (4 rebounds) netted six points. Evan Grigsby (5 rebounds) had five points. Mason Lamb (8 rebounds, 3 assists) and Brady Pratt finished with two points each.
Gabe Marsh had 13 points and nine rebounds to lead West McDowell (2-7). Ty Smith and Dylan Jones had six points each. Isaiah Joyner chipped in with five points, Coda Johnson had four points and Ethan Hensley (4 assists) scored one point.
