The McDowell Lady Titans volleyball team learned its fate Thursday afternoon when the North Carolina High School Athletic released the state volleyball playoff pairings.
Needless to say, the results were very satisfying. McDowell (7-13 overall, 4-10 Northwestern 3A/4A Conference), by finishing as the top 4A team in Northwestern Conference play, was awarded the No. 7 seed and a first-round bye in the 4A state volleyball tournament which begins on Saturday.
The Lady Titans will await the conclusion of the opening round and host the winner of Mallard Creek and North Meck in the second round, which is scheduled to be played on Wednesday.
The Lady Titans, with a pair of road wins last week against West Caldwell and Freedom, jumped ahead of South Caldwell after South lost at Alexander Central last Thursday, thereby relinquishing the league’s automatic bid.
McDowell will be making its first state playoff appearance since the 2014 season when it faced off with Northwest Guilford in the first round, losing in three games.
