After dealing with a three-game losing streak, McDowell (15-3 overall, 8-3 Northwestern 3A/4A Conference) has rebounded with two straight wins.

Alexander Central 48, McDowell 43 (2OT, jayvee girls)
The McDowell Lady Titans junior varsity basketball team found themselves in one of the wildest jayvee girl contests of recent history on Tuesday night.
Unfortunately, the Lady Titans were not able to bust through in the end, losing to Alexander Central 48-43 in double overtime.
The victory preserved Alexander Central’s perfect season at 16-0. But it took until the final moments of the double overtime for that to become a certainty.
McDowell (9-3, 4-3) trailed through most of regulation but found a way to get back even. Syndey Strode (10 points) made a pair of free throws with 19 seconds left in regulation that forced the first overtime.
In that extra frame the Lady Titans were in a position to win the game. Payton Koone’s 3-pointer with 1:48 left in overtime gave McDowell a 38-37 advantage and that was followed by a score from Strode to push the lead up to 40-37 with 36 seconds left.
However the Lady Cougars answered with a big play to force a second overtime. After both teams traded possessions with no points, Alexander Central’s Peyton Price had the ball in her hands in the final 10 seconds of play and banked in a heave from around half court, tying the score up at 40.
That play served for a huge momentum swing as the Lady Cougars outscored McDowell 8-3 in the second overtime to survive the marathon.
Koone and Madi Smith finished with 11 points with Strode’s 10 points to give the Lady Titans three players in double figures. Makiya Burgess (4 rebounds) had five points. Cassie Banks netted four points and Katie Baker chipped in two points.
