Titans fall to St. Stephens

The McDowell Titan tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to the St. Stephens Indians Thursday on the road.

McDowell (0-2 Northwestern 3A/4A Conference, 0-6 overall) scored its lone individual victory in the fourth-seed match. Isaac Lawing defeated Matthew Fallaw in a tiebreaker 7-5, 6-6 (10-7).

Titans top seed Chris Boyette fell to Zach Swisher 6-1, 6-0. At the two seed, Isaac Smith lost 6-1, 6-2 to Cole Rector. At No. 3, Walter Catala dropped a 6-3, 6-0 decision to Matthew Hogan.

The Titans’ John Ramirez fell to Charlie Woy 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5. Orion Hess fell to Diego San Juan 6-0, 6-1 at the sixth seed.

In doubles, Boyette and Catala fell 8-3 to Fallaw and Addison Lin. Smith and Ramirez lost 8-1 to Buff and Swisher. Max Ledbetter and Thomas Moomaw played Andrew Schultz and Jonathan Gheroghica a tight, 7-6 match before losing.

McDowell is on the road at Alexander Central next Thursday.
