Titans fall to unbeaten Spartans

The McDowell Titans tennis team had a rough go of it against the South Caldwell Spartans, falling 9-0 on the road.

The Titans (0-8 overall, 0-4 Northwestern 3A/4A Conference) had difficulty staying close to the undefeated Spartans (10-0, 4-0) in nearly every match.

McDowell’s top seed, Chris Boyette, fell 6-4, 6-2 to Zander Kerr in the most competitive match of the evening.

At No. 2, Isaac Smith was blanked by Andrew Mearns 6-0, 6-0. Corey Kincaid beat Walter Catala 6-0, 6-1 at the third seed.

Caleb Cook defeated John Ramirez 6-0, 6-1 at the fourth seed. At No. 5, Samuel Fisher shut out Orion Hess 6-0, 6-0. Sixth seed Cameron Connor defeated Max Ledbetter 6-1, 6-0 to round out the individual matches.

The Titans didn’t fare any better in doubles. Mearns and Connor defeated Boyette and Smith 8-1. Cook and Fisher teamed up to beat Catala and Ramirez 8-2. Asher Mearns and Hunter Lunsford beat Hess and Ledbetter 8-0.

McDowell hosted Watauga Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. The Titans visit West Caldwell Thursday.
