Titans place last at Boone Golf Club

The McDowell Titans finished last in the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference regular-season finale at Boone Golf Club Wednesday.

The Titans shot a 394 to finish behind West Caldwell (304), Hickory (322), Alexander Central (335), St. Stephens (342), Freedom (348), South Caldwell (354) and Watauga (361).

Jordan Johnson’s 90 led the Titans. Noah Duncan shot 95 and Matthew Johnson 101. Dalton Byerly and R.J. Stanley also played for the Titans.

West Caldwell’s Noah Bumgarner and St. Stephens’ Caden Powell tied for medalist honors. Both shot 2-over-par 73s. Hickory’s Eli Wyatt carded a 74. Freedom’s Jared Clontz shot 76. West Caldwell’s Matthew Gurnsey, Lexton Ford and Jordan Bumgarner all shot 77s.

For West Caldwell, the match wrapped up a season of utter domination in conference play. The Warriors finished with a 2,197, a stunning 158 strokes ahead of second-place Alexander Central. Hickory (2,369) was third.

Noah Bumgarner entered the match dead even with Clontz in the race for league medalist and Conference Player of the Year, and his 73 gave him the title. Bumgarner (445) finished three shots up on Clontz (448) and six ahead of his teammate, Gurnsey (451), who entered the event two shots behind the co-leaders and finished third.

West Caldwell had three of the top six finishers.

Jordan Johnson was the top player for the Titans with a 555. He finished 24th.
