Titans 1st, Lady Titans 2nd at home meet

The McDowell Titans won their first track meet of the season and the Lady Titans finished a season-best second place in a meet at McDowell High Wednesday.

The Titans scored 84.5 points, with 49 of them coming on the throwing and jumping events. West Caldwell (61) edged out Draughn (60.5) for second place. Saint Stephens (46) placed fourth.

Meanwhile, the Lady Titans scored 52 points, with 33 of those coming on throws and jumps, to place behind only St. Stephens (80). Draughn (37) and West Caldwell (7) rounded out the field.

The Titans collected five first-place finishes in the meet, captured the top three spots in the shot put and had three placers in the discus throw.

The 4X800 meter relay team of Fabian Bradley, Victor Adams, Josh Thapa and Barrett Webb won its race with a time of 9:25. Walker Hughes captured first in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet, 8 inches. Carson Ward took first in the long jump with a 20-3. Dequan Boyce won the triple jump with a leap of 39-1. Calvin Stevenson took the pole vault at 9 feet.

The Lady Titans, who had four placers in the shot and three in discus, produced three first-place winners.

The 4X400 relay team of Abigail Williams, Jodi Helton, Viviana Vasquez and Hannah Jo Stephenson took the top spot with a time of 5:21. Cierra Flack won the shot put with a throw of 38-11. Reagan Tipper was first in the triple jump with a 26-11.

The Titans’ second-place finishers were Jacob Craeton (110-meter hurdles, 19.9); the 4X200 relay ‘B’ team of Jeryah Cash, Helen Alvarado, Roby Greer and Andy Massengale (1:50); the 4X100 relay ‘A’ team of Bryson Effler, Riley Moore, Preston Dennison and Carson Ward (48.4); Fabian Bradley (800 meters, 2:23.1); Trevor Kettles (discus, 111-8); Richard Handy (shot put, 37-7); Boyce (long jump, 19-3.5); and Seth Harrison (high jump, 5-0).

Lady Titans placing second included Stephenson (800 meters, 3:09.8); Summer Bartlett (discus, 86-3, shot put, 34-5); and Olivia Davis (high jump, 4-2).

Titans placing third included the 4X100 relay ‘B’ team of Handy, Levi Lister, Troy Harris and Hughes (54.3); the 4X400 relay team of Bradley, Webb, Boyce and Toby Finn (4:09); Hughes (discus, 106-1); and Harley Allison (shot put, 37-15).

Vasquez was third in the 400 meters for the Lady Titans (1:21.5).

Fourth-place finishers for the Titans included Thapa (400 meters, 59.8); and Moore (triple jump, 36-1).

Finishing fourth for the Lady Titans were Courtney Roper (200 meters, 34.4); Autumn Bartlett (discus, 83-10); Shaquoia Largent (shot put, 31-1); Tipper (long jump, 12-6); and Davis (long jump, 12-6).

Titans placing fifth included Harrison (1,600 meters, 5:33.9); Adams (800 meters, 2:34.7); Thapa (3,200 meters, 15:54); and Lister (discus, 95-9).

Lady Titans finishing in fifth place were Davis (100 meters, 16.1); Audra Gibbs (200 meters, 46.4); Largent (discus, 82-11); and Autumn Bartlett (shot put, 30-4).

McDowell competes at Alexander Central next Wednesday.
