The McDowell Titan wrestling team had a rough day at East Burke’s Adam Benson Dual Tournament last weekend, going 2-3 in the event.

McDowell (9-14) defeated East Burke 51-12 and Draughn 54-12, but fell to Hibriten 48-30, to West Lincoln 70-9 and to Wilkes Central 48-23.

Two Titans, 170-pounder Josh Morgan and 126-pounder Toby Finn, went 5-0, with Morgan racking up four pins. Tito Landaverdy (145 pounds) and Jesse Barrier (182) both went 4-1. Calvin Stevenson (132) and Dalton Byerly (152) each compiled 3-2 records.

Morgan, a senior, pinned East Burke’s Elijah Hess; Hibriten’s Connor Kunkle; Draughn’s Will Helton; and West Lincoln’s Hayden Thomas. Morgan defeated Wilkes Central’s Ethan Adams on an injury-time default to wrap up a near-perfect day.

Finn, a sophomore, pinned Hibriten’s Dace Tugman; won a 7-1 decision over East Burke’s Caleb Johnson-White; defeated West Lincoln’s Luke Stewart 3-0, and picked up forfeit wins from Draughn and Wilkes Central for his 5-0 day.

Landaverdy’s four victories all came via pinfall. He pinned East Burke’s Bryson Hedrick; Hibriten’s Cade Ellis; Draughn’s Clay Davis; and Wilkes Central’s Tradin Allen.

Barrier pinned Hibriten’s Taylib Howell and picked up forfeits from East Burke, Draughn and Wilkes Central.

Joseph Thomas (113) won two matches in the tournament. Bruin Lytle (160), Jonathan Deal (285) and Tomas Laws (138) picked up one victory apiece.
