A Marion police officer and another driver were taken to the hospital following a vehicle crash on the five lane Thursday.

At approximately 12:23 p.m. Thursday afternoon, emergency units and law enforcement responded to 308 North Main Street in Marion in front of Moondoggy’s restaurant after receiving reports of a multi-car collision with entrapment.

According to Trooper Glenn Tupper of the NC State Highway Patrol, a Marion Police cruiser driven by MPD Office Matthew Huggins was traveling southbound on the five lane when a black Chevy Silverado pickup truck turning into the parking lot of Tate’s Insurance struck the officer’s vehicle, spun and hit the curb. The resulting collision also sent debris flying into the back window of a white Nissan Rouge sitting in the parking lot.

Huggins and the driver of the Silverado were transported to the hospital for treatment, according to Tupper.
